How It Works

The Bitmap Metaverse is built on a simple but profound idea: Bitcoin block data can be mapped to spatial analogues. Every piece of information inside a Bitcoin block — transactions, values, sizes, timestamps — can be interpreted as properties of virtual land.

To claim a District, you must be the first person to inscribe {block_height}.bitmap onto a satoshi. This inscription is verified by indexers which scan the Bitcoin blockchain for valid Bitmap claims.

Once claimed, the block's data is parsed by indexers and rendered into a 3D or 2D spatial visualization — creating a unique piece of land that no one else can replicate, because no two Bitcoin blocks contain identical data.

The District-Parcel System

District (Bitcoin Block)
A District is one entire Bitcoin block. It is the primary unit of ownership in the Bitmap metaverse. The block height number (e.g. 431897) is the District ID. Owning the District means owning all Parcels within it.

Parcel (Transaction)
Each transaction in the block is a Parcel — a subdivision of land. Parcels inherit from their parent District. When the District is sold, all Parcels move with it. Each block can have hundreds or even thousands of Parcels.

Blocktribute (Build)
Only verified District owners can add Blocktributes — custom attributes, art, or metadata inscribed to their land. Verified using Bitcoin's UTXO set: the inscription must be sent to the same address as the District.

Canvas (Visualization)
The District canvas is a 2D or 3D rendering of the block's transaction data. Each Parcel appears as a colored region. The visual is generated algorithmically from real block data — unique to each block forever.
THE CONCEPT

Digital Matter Theory

Bitmap is grounded in Digital Matter Theory (DMT) — a philosophical framework that treats on-chain data as having intrinsic, matter-like properties. Just as physical matter has shape, mass, and structure, digital data has size, value, and sequence.

Under DMT, a Bitcoin block is not just a database entry — it's a distinct digital substance. Its properties are fixed, observable, and real. Bitmap maps these properties to the spatial metaphor humans use for land: area, depth, and location.

This is why Bitmaps are called "non-arbitrary" — their nature is determined by the physical reality of Bitcoin computation, not the whims of a designer.

Unlike NFTs with randomized traits or arbitrary art, every property of a Bitmap is derived from real, immutable, verifiable Bitcoin blockchain data. The blockchain is the artist.

BRC-420 — The Asset Layer

Built on top of Bitmap by the RCSV/Recursiverse team, BRC-420 is the asset management protocol that brings the metaverse to life.

BRC-420 allows multiple Ordinals inscriptions to be recursively combined into complex inscriptions — enabling game characters, animations, scripts, music, and even AI models to be inscribed entirely on-chain.

These composable modules become playable in the Bitmap metaverse. Bitmap is the land; BRC-420 is everything built on it — furniture, avatars, games, and economies.

Over 100 teams have issued assets on BRC-420, generating $10M+ in cumulative royalties. The protocol powers Bitmap Game, Bitmap War, Mineral, and dozens of other projects.
